The Minnesota Wild continue to build out their defense, agreeing to a one-year, $5 million deal with Alex Goligoski, general manager Bill Guerin said Wednesday.

With the move, Goligoski returns home. The defenseman is from Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and played three seasons for the University of Minnesota.

The Colorado Avalanche and captain Gabriel Landeskog agreed on an eight-year contract extension, taking the most coveted forward off the market on the eve of NHL free agency.

The contract carries a $7 million average annual value. It has a full no-movement clause in the first four seasons and then a modified no-trade clause in the final four years.

Defenseman Marc Staal is staying put in Detroit.

The Red Wings announced Sunday they had reached an agreement on a one-year extension with Staal. Terms were not disclosed but The Associated Press reports the contract is worth $2 million.

Taylor Hall is staying in Boston.

The former Hart Trophy winner, who was acquired by the Bruins in April, has signed a four-year deal with an annual cap hit of $6 million, the team announced Friday.

The left winger was an unrestricted free agent.

Defenseman Christian Wolanin has agreed to a one-year, $750,000 contract extension to return to the Los Angeles Kings.

Wolanin was eligible for unrestricted free agency. The Kings announced the deal on Tuesday.
